Our Story

From "Seed" to "Sod"

At TLS of Statesville, our business grew organically from a true passion for creating exceptional outdoor spaces right here in our own neighborhood. With a diverse background rooted in hard work—spanning the service industry, machine shops, construction, corporate communications, and years of professional landscaping—I honed my skills in operations management and effective problem-solving. But my real passion always returned to the earth.

After building our family home, I applied decades of cumulative experience to establish a thriving new landscape that quickly became the envy of the street. Neighbors began joking that I should start a business, asking constantly for my "secrets." Recognizing a genuine need in our community, I decided to launch TLS of Statesville.

The name “TLS” holds deep personal meaning: it honors the initials of my son, the heartbeat of our world, while perfectly describing what we provide—Tailored Turf & Landscape Solutions (or "Liquid Solutions") for your property. We are founded on the principle that the same dedication and expertise that transformed my own yard can transform yours. We bring a unique blend of precision, communication, and hands-on expertise to every lawn we touch.

Your Role in a Lush Lawn

Achieving a lush lawn is a team effort! While TLS of Statesville provides expert liquid solutions and turf management, your actions as the homeowner are crucial to keeping your turf healthy and looking its best.

Watering

Proper watering practices are a very important part of keeping a healthy and green lawn.

  • Water deeply and infrequently: This encourages deeper root growth. Aim for about 1 to 1.5 inches of water per week, ideally in the early morning to reduce evaporation and disease risk.
  • Avoid over watering: This can lead to problems like disease or shallow root systems.
  • Adjust: Adapting your irrigation routine to current soil conditions and unpredictable weather patterns is essential for maintaining a resilient landscape.

Mowing

Proper mowing techniques will ensure your lawn stays beautiful all season long.

  • Mow at the right height: Don't cut the grass too short, as this can weaken the plant. A good rule is to avoid removing more than one-third of the blade at a time.
  • Keep blades sharp: Sharp blades make clean cuts that stress the grass less.
  • Mow regularly: Consistent mowing encourages dense growth and helps prevent weeds from taking hold.
  • Avoid wet mowing: Mowing when the grass is wet can spread fungal spores, so try to do it when it's dry.

Inspection

Regular inspection is a cornerstone of proactive lawn care, transforming maintenance from reactive problem-solving to preventative management. By routinely walking your property, you can catch emerging issues like localized dry spots, fungal diseases, or pest infestations (such as grubs or chinch bugs) while they are small and easily treatable. These inspections allow you to confirm that the irrigation system is providing uniform coverage, identify areas where soil compaction is causing thin turf, and observe the overall color and vigor of the grass. Ultimately, consistent vigilance allows for timely intervention, leading to a healthier, greener, and more resilient lawn.
